The Asian golden cat (Catopuma temminckii) is a medium-sized, elusive wild feline found in the forests of Southeast Asia, including parts of India, China, and the Malay Peninsula. It has a muscular build and a coat that ranges in color from golden-red to gray or even black, sometimes marked with faint spots or stripes. This solitary and primarily nocturnal cat inhabits tropical and subtropical forests, where it preys on birds, rodents, reptiles, and small ungulates. Adaptable yet rarely seen, the Asian golden cat is threatened by habitat loss and poaching, making it one of Asia’s more mysterious wild cats.
