The güiña (Leopardus guigna), also known as the kodkod, is the smallest wild cat in the Americas and is native to the temperate rainforests of southern Chile and parts of Argentina. It has a compact body, short legs, and a thick, spotted coat that ranges from gray-brown to yellowish-brown, with a black-tipped tail and rounded ears. Despite its small size, the güiña is a skilled climber and hunter, feeding on rodents, birds, and insects. It is primarily nocturnal and solitary, relying on dense forest cover for shelter. The güiña is classified as Vulnerable due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and conflict with humans.
