The Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) is a small, hardy canid native to the Arctic tundra, perfectly adapted to one of the coldest environments on Earth. It has a thick, insulating coat that changes color with the seasons—white in winter for camouflage in snow, and brown or gray in summer. Compact in build, with short ears and a fluffy tail, the Arctic fox conserves heat efficiently. It primarily feeds on lemmings, birds, and carrion, and is known to follow polar bears to scavenge leftover food. Resilient and resourceful, it survives in extreme conditions with remarkable agility and endurance.
