The beech marten (Martes foina), also known as the stone marten, is a small, agile carnivore native to much of Europe and parts of Central Asia. It has a slender body, bushy tail, brownish-gray fur, and a distinctive white throat patch that often extends down to the chest. Unlike its forest-dwelling relative, the pine marten, the beech marten is highly adaptable and commonly found in rocky areas, farmlands, and even urban settings, where it may shelter in attics or barns. Omnivorous and primarily nocturnal, it feeds on small mammals, birds, insects, fruit, and eggs. It is listed as Least Concern and is known for its adaptability and bold behavior near human settlements.
