The Bengal fox (Vulpes bengalensis), also known as the Indian fox, is a small, slender canid native to the Indian subcontinent. It has a pale gray to reddish-brown coat, large pointed ears, and a long, bushy tail with a black tip. Preferring open grasslands, scrublands, and semi-arid regions, the Bengal fox is mostly nocturnal and crepuscular, resting in dens during the day. It feeds on a varied diet of rodents, reptiles, insects, and fruit. Typically seen alone or in pairs, this fox is shy and elusive, playing an important role in controlling pest populations.
