The black-footed cat (Felis nigripes) is one of the smallest wild cats in the world and is native to the arid grasslands and savannas of southern Africa. Despite its small size—about the size of a domestic kitten—it is a fierce and highly efficient nocturnal hunter, known for having one of the highest hunting success rates among cats. It has a stocky build, a tawny coat covered in black spots and stripes, and dark markings on its legs and feet. Solitary and secretive, the black-footed cat avoids human contact and relies on stealth and speed to catch rodents, birds, and insects.
