The caracal (Caracal caracal) is a medium-sized wild cat native to Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Central and South Asia. It is known for its sleek, reddish-gold coat and distinctive long, black-tufted ears, which give it a striking and elegant appearance. Powerful and agile, the caracal is an excellent jumper—capable of leaping several feet into the air to catch birds in flight. Mostly solitary and nocturnal, it preys on small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Adaptable to various habitats, from savannas to arid regions, the caracal is elusive, making it one of the more mysterious members of the wild cat family.
