The fennec fox (Vulpes zerda) is the smallest of all fox species, native to the sandy deserts of North Africa. It is instantly recognizable by its oversized ears, which help dissipate heat and enhance hearing. With a creamy beige coat, large dark eyes, and a bushy tail, the fennec fox is well adapted to desert life, capable of surviving extreme heat and limited water. It is nocturnal, feeding on insects, small animals, and plants. Social and playful, the fennec fox often lives in family groups and digs extensive burrows in the sand for shelter.
