Geoffroy’s cat (Leopardus geoffroyi) is a small, spotted wild feline native to the grasslands, scrublands, and forests of southern South America, including Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and parts of Brazil and Chile. It has a slender build, a gray to yellowish coat covered in black spots, and a black-tipped tail. About the size of a domestic cat, Geoffroy’s cat is solitary and primarily nocturnal, hunting rodents, birds, reptiles, and insects. It is an agile climber and swimmer, though it mostly hunts on the ground. While still relatively widespread, it faces threats from habitat loss and poaching for its fur.
