The Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) is one of the most endangered wild cats in the world, found only in select areas of southern Spain and Portugal. It has a striking appearance with a short, tawny coat covered in dark spots, long legs, a short black-tipped tail, and distinctive tufts of black hair on its ears and cheeks. Specializing in hunting rabbits, the Iberian lynx is a solitary and territorial predator, mostly active at dawn and dusk. Once on the brink of extinction due to habitat loss, hunting, and a decline in rabbit populations, it has made a significant recovery thanks to intensive conservation efforts, but it remains classified as endangered.
