The Indian wolf (Canis lupus pallipes) is a subspecies of gray wolf found in the grasslands and semi-arid regions of the Indian subcontinent. Smaller and more slender than its northern relatives, it has a short, coarse coat that ranges from gray to reddish-brown, helping it blend into dry landscapes. Indian wolves are social animals, typically living in small packs, and they hunt prey such as antelope, rodents, and livestock. Unlike other wolves, they are known for being less vocal, rarely howling. Threatened by habitat loss and human conflict, the Indian wolf is protected but still faces significant conservation challenges.
