The leopard (Panthera pardus) is a powerful and adaptable big cat native to Africa and parts of Asia. Known for its golden coat covered in dark rosettes, the leopard is built for stealth and strength, with muscular limbs and excellent climbing ability. It is solitary and mostly nocturnal, stalking and ambushing a wide range of prey including antelope, monkeys, and birds. Leopards are also known to drag kills into trees to avoid scavengers. Their adaptability allows them to thrive in habitats ranging from savannas and forests to mountains and urban edges. Despite their resilience, leopards face threats from habitat loss and poaching.
