The leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) is a small, agile wild feline found throughout South, Southeast, and East Asia. Resembling a miniature leopard, it has a slender build, a soft yellowish to grayish coat covered in black rosettes and spots, and a white underbelly. It thrives in a variety of habitats, from tropical forests and grasslands to mountainous regions and even near human settlements. Primarily nocturnal and solitary, the leopard cat hunts small mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. It is the wild ancestor of the Bengal domestic cat breed. While still relatively widespread, habitat loss and poaching pose growing threats to its survival.
