The Pampas fox (Lycalopex gymnocercus), also known as the Azara’s fox or Pampas zorro, is a medium-sized canid native to the grasslands and open plains of South America, particularly in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It has a grayish coat with reddish markings on its legs and face, a bushy tail with a dark tip, and a sharp, pointed muzzle. Omnivorous and adaptable, the Pampas fox feeds on rodents, birds, reptiles, insects, and fruit. Mostly nocturnal, it is usually solitary but may form pairs during breeding season. It plays a vital ecological role and is widespread across its range.
