The rusty-spotted cat (Prionailurus rubiginosus) is one of the smallest wild cats in the world, native to India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. It has a compact, delicate build with a short, soft grayish coat marked by rusty-red spots on its back and flanks, and distinct stripes on its face. Weighing only 2 to 4 pounds, it is about half the size of a domestic cat. Despite its tiny size, the rusty-spotted cat is a skilled and bold hunter, preying on rodents, birds, and insects. Mostly nocturnal and solitary, it inhabits forests, grasslands, and even agricultural areas. It is currently listed as near-threatened due to habitat loss.
