The Sechuran fox (Lycalopex sechurae), also known as the Peruvian desert fox, is a small, rare canid native to the arid coastal regions of northwestern Peru and southwestern Ecuador. It has a slender build, large ears, and a pale grayish coat with a bushy tail tipped in black. Adapted to desert and dry forest environments, the Sechuran fox is nocturnal and solitary, feeding on fruit, insects, small vertebrates, and carrion. It relies heavily on plant material during dry seasons and is well-adapted to surviving with minimal water. Though elusive, it is not currently considered endangered but is vulnerable to habitat loss.
